Inspired by Su Blackwell
I have seen book sculptures before and I have always thought they were so very magical, but I've never seen any like Su Blackwell's. She puts the magic into this art. I just discovered her works today and I am absolutely mesmerized. There is even lighting and suspended miscellanies from birds to miniature books!
Words that come to mind when I see her work...
haunting
fairytale,
fragile,
ethereal,
fantasy,
surreal,
childhood,
dreams.
It all brings me back to my childhood, really. I've been obsessed with fairytales, fantasy worlds, and reading since I can remember. It's all kind of nostalgic, in a sense.
I can't imagine creating another world with such delicate materials... to have the patience, the insight, to even know where to begin. But boy, am I inspired. I would fill my house to the brim with these wonders.
