Moving Over

Hey all! So, I'm not going to be writing on here anymore. I'm continuing this blog over on Tumblr. I' have been using both Blogger and Tumblr to see what I like to use best and I guess the decision has finally been made. If you would like to keep reading my posts, than head on over to storm-bird.tumblr.com

Mysteries, Mysteries, Mysteries.

I’m finishing up my annotated bibliography for my paper over Edgar Allan Poe, and I came across articles that discussed how people are coming closer to solving the mystery of his death. At first, this excited me. But then I realized I didn’t want to know, especially after reading that it could have been a brain tumor. Wouldn’t it be better to just leave it all alone and never truly know? Mysteries are better than the truth sometimes. Much more gripping. That’s why people hold onto such things. They love the mystery of it. Maybe a part of me prefers to believe that he died under a much more strange, inexplainable circumstance. I believe that Edgar Allan Poe would’ve been very pleased with how mysterious his life and death are today, and would have liked the idea of no one really knowing how he went out of this world. That’s a personal opinion, as is this, but I think we humans should just leave mysteries as mysteries. That’s some of the little magic we have in this world.

Happy Halloween: A Playlist

Happy Halloween all! Hope your day is filled with spooky fun. I thought I'd make a playlist mix for everyone. Today, you'll be able to find me eating the trick or treater's stash of candy (shh!) and watching Corpse Bride, Paranorman, and the likes. I'd really love to dress up this year, but I don't really have a reason to... Kind of a bummer. I'm thinking about just throwing something together even though I have no plans. Dress up is never not fun, whatever age you are, don't you agree? But I'll definitely be sporting a black maxi dress and a burnt orange trench coat today while out.

LIGHTS by Bruce Munro

Last Friday, quite close to a week ago now, I went to my very first art exhibit of installation art at Cheekwood Mansion here in Nashville. It was amazing. What made it even better was that it was outside in the chilly autumn air. At night. It was pure magic.

I can easily say that Bruce Munro is one of my favorite artists now. He makes his art out of optic fibers and lights. I cannot wrap my brain around it, but I am so inspired. I was completely in awe that night. I felt like I was wandering through Wonderland, what with the glowing structures that looked like a field of enchanted flowers, flashing teepees, and a moon that landed on earth. Suddenly, I was walking through Wonderland into Baz Lurhhman's adpation of The Great Gatsby. The lights continued into the mansion on the grounds, which was built in the twenties I believe. With all of the people crowding around and flowing through the doors, I felt like I was at one of Gatsby's infamous parties thrown for Daisy. I could feel his eyes coming from the top of the spiraling staircase as people went about admiring all of his fine things.

I visited that water tower musical maze twice. I was in love! These towers were made out of water bottles. They lit up and changed colors along with music playing from the inside, I believe. The colors changed according to how fast or slow the music was, which sounded like it belonged in some fairytale land or The Chronicles of Narnia movie.

My phone doesn't even begin to capture how absolutely lovely all of this was. I had an evening filled with childlike wonder. It was just what I needed. I felt like I had been lacking something previously, inspiration-wise as well as motivation-wise. I have my days where I can't see my future clearly and I'm absolutely terrified of going after some of my dreams. It can be crippling. But Bruce Munro's exhibit seemed to awaken something within me. Perhaps it was my inner child, the little girl I once was who always held onto hope, didn't see anything as impossible, believed in fairies, and dreamed constantly.

I urge you to go see Bruce Munro's work if you ever have the chance. If you're in the Nashville area, it will be continuing until November 8th at Cheekwood Mansion.

Kaleidoscope Series

I found a vintage kaleidoscope that was gifted to me by my grandmother when I was a little girl and it made me happy. Prints and phone cases are available in my Society 6 shop.

Got Them Blues

Today, I find myself really inspired by all shades of blue. I thought I finally settled on a favorite color, but now I'm starting to think it's leaning towards blue. Honestly, my favorite color seems to change every few days. I started a little painting project today inspired by vintage botanical prints. Everything is blue all for the leaves, which I'm starting to reconsider. After I realized how much I was digging blue at the moment, I switched on Blue Veins by The Raconteurs. It simply popped in my head while painting a bright ultramarine color into petals. And now I want everything to be blue.
